27th March, 2009

This Saturday March 29 2009 is Earth Hour!

This year Benedict Industries will take part in Earth Hour, joining people in Australia and around the world in turning off our lights between 8:30-9:30 pm for one hour – Earth Hour – showing our support and sending a powerful global message that it’s possible to take action on climate change and succeed.

Earth Hour

In 2009, at the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference in December, world’s leaders will meet to reach a new global climate deal. There has never been a more important time to participate in Earth Hour and join the world in a visual mandate to fight climate change.

Earth Hour 2009 aims to reach 1 billion people in 1,000 cities who, by simply switching all their non-essential lights off, will show their support for action on climate change.

Earth Hour is a positive message of hope and action, emphasising what people can do when they act together. This is why Benedict Industries will take part in this year’s event and I would like to invite you to join us.

Benedict has committed to Earth Hour through additional work initiatives including:

  • Using energy light saver globes where ever possible such as in our carparks.
  • Implementation of an office recycling system at Benedict Industries and Recycling Head Offices.

Benedict has also entered into an exciting new venture, with a Development Approval been granted for a Cogeneration Power Plant at our Chipping Norton Recycling facility that will allow us to generate and supply 5.5MW of power fuelled from recycled construction and demolition waste.

If you would like further information on Earth Hour visit their website at www.earthhour.org, or to get more details about Benedict’s commitment to Earth Hour and beyond please contact Elke Dupere on 02 8761 0000 or email her at elke@benedict.com.au

Together we can make a difference!
